The compound advantage

Data that gets better
every season.

Waze data has a half-life of minutes. The tidal set on Annapolis Roads starboard layline doesn't change year to year. CourseNotes knowledge compounds permanently.

Yr 1
Useful but not yet irreplaceable
100+ venues, early community, first tactical notes. Delaware Bay and Chesapeake core fully seeded.
Yr 2
Starting to become authoritative
500+ venues, 10+ verified notes per top venue, source accuracy data per station per venue.
Yr 5
Irreplaceable. The gap cannot be bought.
2,000+ US venues. Every major race venue documented. 15-year wind charts. A competitor starting from zero needs 5 years to catch up. That gap compounds every racing season.
Trust system

Expertise is
venue-specific.

Tactics & Strategy
S to SSW afternoon seabreeze filling in by 1300. Huge right shift at the top mark when it fills — boats that stayed right on the second beat consistently gained.
Local Expert · AYC Wednesday Night Series · June 2025 · 41 upvotes
41
Conditions
Max ebb at start time (1630). Strong current setting NW on the stbd layline. Overstand by at least one length. Several boats got caught short on the approach.
Active Sailor · AYC Wednesday Night · July 2025 · 28 upvotes
28
Hazard
Crab pots reappearing inside the leeward mark layline. Two near 38.97°N, 76.48°W just inside the layline zone.
Active Sailor · Annapolis Roads · August 2025 · 19 upvotes
19
Rig Tuning
J/22 fleet: heavy air rig (backstay on, tight forestay sag) when TPLM2 reads 14+ kt. Sea state in the Roads lags wind reading by 15–20 min in a building breeze.
Local Expert · AYC J/22 Fleet · September 2025 · 33 upvotes
33
Race Dispatch
AYC 3-2-1 Invitational weekend: strong SSW seabreeze both days, 12–18 kt. Left side consistently lifted off the start — pin-end bias both days. 10-kt pressure range across the course.
Founding Sailor · AYC 3-2-1 Invitational · August 2025 · 52 upvotes
52
Tactics & Strategy
SW seabreeze in the Delaware Bay is real but delayed — often 1300–1330 onset. Before it fills, watch for a patchy NW gradient that splits the fleet early on the beat. Boats on the right (NW) can get a lift and be sailing into pressure simultaneously.
Local Expert · LYC Junior Regatta · July 2025 · 38 upvotes
38
Conditions
Max ebb runs 1.5–2 kt in the shipping channel, less inshore. On the beat, the ebb sets you down the course — overstand the upwind mark significantly on port tack. Boats on layline from below who don't account for set get pinned hard.
Active Sailor · Delaware Bay · June 2025 · 24 upvotes
24
Hazard
Delaware Bay shipping lane is active. Commercial traffic (tankers and container ships inbound to Philadelphia) has right of way. Always know where the lane runs relative to the race course. VHF CH 16 active — racers should have it available.
Active Sailor · Lewes area · August 2025 · 61 upvotes
61
Rig Tuning
Opti RWB fleet at LYC: when LWSD1 reads 12+ kt, expect short steep chop in 1–2 ft range by race time. More rocking in the Bay than a flat-water lake. Lightweight sailors should depower early — vang and outhaul on well before the start sequence.
